Talladega Race Recap

Talladega, AL (May 5, 2012) – Talladega Superspeedway is known for high speeds, a rich history of Earnhardt racing and wrecks known as “the big one.” The Aarons 312 race on May 5th had all of the above. Jeffrey and his uncle, Dale Jr. raced together for the second time this season and for multiple laps the #15 and #5 were trading places and maybe a little paint. Rain eliminated qualifying which meant Jeffrey’s Fastwax-POYNT Ford Mustang started in the 43rd position but with aggressive drafting moves and creative partnering, the #15 quickly ran to the front of the pack. Running between 7th and 15th Jeffrey looked like he was on his way to a top 10 finish. But with just 3 laps to go “the big one” happened and Jeffrey’s car was pushed towards the wall in a viscous crash that red flagged the race while driver Eric McClure was cut from his car and airlifted to an area hospital.

“We had a good run going today. The qualifying rainout started us last but we made good moves on the track & pits and I think we got up to 7th. The #99 worked with us and it was just a matter of finding a partner and working our way up to the front. Unfortunately we got caught by that wreck at the end of the race. I’m glad Eric is ok and we’re looking forward to the next speedway race in Daytona in July” said Jeffrey.
